Mayor to Give Commencement Speech at MAP Graduation Ceremony

Madison - Mayor Dave Cieslewicz will give the commencement speech at the upcoming Madison Apprenticeship Program (MAP) graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 5. MAP was created in 2005 to provide a wide range of skills training to prepare underemployed and unemployed members of the community, particularly residents of the Allied Drive area, for education and employment opportunities. Since its creation, 47 students have graduated from MAP (including this year's class) and moved on to a variety of job and educational opportunities. This year, fourteen students will be taking part in the MAP graduation ceremonies. Several will be pursuing their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) at MATC. Others will take part in various skilled trade apprenticeship programs. Still others have jobs lined up or are planning to start their own small business. "MAP has a remarkable record of success in helping prepare members of our community for meaningful education and career opportunities," said Mayor Cieslewicz. "I am proud to have the chance to speak to the most recent graduates from this program who are an inspiration for their commitment to creating a better future for themselves and their families." The graduation will take place on May 5, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fitchburg Council Chambers 5520 Lacey Road.
