East District Blotter

Making Connections with Elementary School Students

March 26, 2013 2:10 PM

Over the past month, officers from the East Police District have connected with students from Kennedy Elementary and Frank Allis Elementary. On February 15th, students from Ms Baker's second and third grade multi-age class at Kennedy Elementary came over to the East Police District and worked on an art project that is currently displayed on the bulletin board in our lobby. The visit was part of Kennedy Cares week, and the students chose the East Police District for this project as a way of learning to do things for others. They did a great job on the project and we appreciate their efforts!

Also in February, Officers Emily Samson and Jimmy Milton led a second and third grade assembly at Kennedy in a talk about theft and integrity. On a later date, Officer Milton also read to a class at Kennedy. In early March, Officer Samson was at Allis Elementary for their annual Read Across America day where she read to several students. Officer Samson enjoyed having this opportunity to show children the importance of reading in our everyday lives.
