November Office Hours

I will be hosting office hours this week on Thursday (November 4) from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. I will be using Zoom (with video): REGISTER

Please use the registration above to get the Zoom link. When you register, you'll also get an e-mail reminder on the day of Office Hours. You can register in advance or the day of.

Note: I have set it up so I can only meet one person at a time. If I'm meeting with someone else, there will be a small waiting period in a meeting lobby. If you don't want to use Zoom, I will be answering calls (608-912-0000) during this time as long as I'm not speaking with someone else. 

If you have a question, concern, or topic of interest that you would like to discuss, but Thursday doesn't work for you, you can e-mail me.

Redistricting

On Tuesday, there will be a public hearing at the Common Council meeting on the proposed redistricting map (and two proposed amendments). The Council is expected to adopt maps that evening.

Updates on Affordable Housing, Encampments, and Shelters

The City-County Homeless Issues Committee will be receiving updates on affordable housing funds and homeless shelters at its meeting on Monday.

Reindahl Park Safety Plan

The Common Council Executive Committee will be receiving an update on the Reindahl Park safety plan at its meeting on Tuesday.

• You are invited to a virtual town hall on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 6pm where local medical and public health professionals will provide an update about COVID-19 vaccination and testing in Dane County. Spanish interpretation will be available. This FREE event will be streamed via Zoom and is open to community members at large. Registration is required. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their questions in advance or ask questions during the presentation. Please see the flyer in English and Spanish.

• The Aldo Leopold Park Bike Pump Track will soon be finished! Capital Offroad Pathfinders and other bike lovers will celebrate completion of the track on Saturday, November 6, starting at 10am, at 2906 Traceway Drive. Come on out to try the new track! Everyone is welcome. All ages, and any bike will do.  Skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, anything with wheels.

• Starting at 2am on Tuesday, November 2, the southbound Interstate 39/90 ramp to westbound US 12/18 (Beltline) in Madison will be closed to all traffic until 5am on Wednesday, November 3. In addition, significant backups are expected along I-39/90 southbound, as the Interstate will be reduced to two lanes for 4 miles between the I-94 and Beltline interchanges. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time through the area.

During the 27-hour ramp closure, motorists must use alternate routes via US 51/Stoughton Road to access US 12/18 (Beltline) – options are listed below. Drivers should anticipate delays on Stoughton Road due to the traffic diversion.

• Exit 132 north of Madison to travel south on US 51.
• Exit 135 A to US 151 south (East Washington Avenue) to US 51/Stoughton Road.
• Exit 138 B for WIS 30 to US 51/Stoughton Road.
• The signed detour route will follow I-39/90 southbound to the County N interchange (Exit 147) to turn around and travel north to the I-39/90 northbound ramp to westbound US 12/18.

You can register for weekly email construction updates on the I-39/90 Project website follow the project on Facebook. All work activities, lane and ramp closures are weather dependent and subject to change. The backup dates would be Wednesday, November 3 or Thursday, November 4.

• The Streets Division has several updates:

  • The 2022 trash & recycling collection calendar is now available. Get yours today at www.cityofmadison.com/CollectionSchedule. Enter your address into the form. A new tab will open in your web browser. Scroll down to see next year’s schedule.

  • Leaf and yard waste collection for the fall is underway. Learn when you should set out your leaves and yard waste so they are picked up by visiting www.cityofmadison.com/YardWaste

  • Drop-off site hours change seasonally, so be sure you know when the sites are open before loading your car. Learn the rules for the sites and the hours when they are open at www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites

  • Remember that large item collection is different. You need to submit a work order before you set the items out for pickup, and remember not to set the items out too early. Wait until the set-out date you chose or the day before the set-out date. Placing items out too early clutters the neighborhood.   • Winter is around the corner. Be sure to sign up for parking alerts, snow plow update emails, and learn about how to salt your sidewalks and driveways correctly at www.cityofmadison.com/Winter.

• Your input is valuable! Please consider responding to the Music and Tourism Survey. This survey aims to take a pulse on how people view our current music ecosystem and share ideas on how to improve it. The survey will take 5 minutes and if you share your contact information, you will be entered into a drawing for $50. Your name will only be entered once. Take the Survey!

• The South Madison Plan Final DRAFT will be introduced to the Common Council on November 2. If you are a resident of South Madison or work in the area, you are encouraged to review the Draft and follow the adoption process. The South Madison Plan will be referred to various legislative bodies and the exact schedule will be posted on the South Madison Plan website later in the week. 

• New Engineering page for Lake Mendota Drive reconstruction: Lake Mendota Drive | Engineering, City of Madison, Wisconsin. Survey crews are currently collecting data for planned work on Lake Mendota Drive. The City of Madison is planning to reconstruct Lake Mendota Dr.  Due to the size/scope of the work, this work will be completed over several years, with work being completed on several blocks each year.  In 2022, work is planned for the western most blocks, in 2023, the eastern blocks, and the middle blocks in 2024. In general, the reconstruction of the street will include replacement of underground City utilities, especially storm sewer and sanitary sewer, and reconstruction of the street infrastructure (pavement, gravel base) along with any curb or sidewalk installations that are approved for the project(s).
