Burning Smell Traced To Dishwasher In West Side Home
Incident Details
Firefighters were asked to come out to a home on Winding Way when occupants smelled smoke inside.
No smoke or flames were showing from the outside as Engine Company 12 and other responding crews arrived on scene, but firefighters did smell an “electrical burning” odor of some sort when they stepped inside.
The smell pervaded the entire home, and Ladder Company 2 was asked to come in and assist in determining the source using thermal imagining cameras.
A light haze in the kitchen led them to examine the dishwasher. Firefighters ran it twice, and the burning smell increased each time it ran. No fire or smoke was seen, but the burning smell indicated there could be an electrical problem.
The breaker was turned off, and firefighters advised homeowners to seek repairs or replacement.
