posted

No one was injured at Brownlofts Apartment construction site when lightning struck shortly after 8:00 am on Friday, May 17th. When City of Madison Firefighters arrived at 1815 University Avenue, on-site Findorff workers took the firefighters to the 4th floor were they said the lightning struck. Another crew of firefighters went to the roof area where they noticed some brickwork and OSB board had blown apart. Firefighters attached their hose from their standpipe kit to the roof connection and sprayed water in the interstitial space, where lightning had caused some burning to the roof area and to a portion of the 4th floor. Prior to the arrival of Firefighters, construction workers from Findorff felt the building shake after the lightning struck and noticed sparks. Two portable fire extinguishers were used to put out a small fire. Estimated damage is $10,000. Workers were able to return to work.
