Fire Crews Rescue Man From Dumpster

Around 6:30 am, City of Madison Fire Department paramedics were called to the 2900 block of E. Washington Avenue for an injured person in a dumpster. A male had been sleeping in a dumpster when a garbage truck came and emptied the contents into the hopper. The victim fell 8 to 10 feet into the truck. The driver of the garbage truck either saw with victim waving a coat or heard him yell. 911 was then notified. Paramedics climbed into the hopper to assess the patient. Ladder 8 was dispatched to the scene to extricate the patient from the top of the hopper using the Arial Ladder and Stokes basket. Patient was transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
