UPDATE: Due to rain in the forecast for most of the day, the August 14th Northeast Area Connect event is being rescheduled for August 15th from 5-7 pm at Reindahl Park

Public Engagement

The City of Madison is inviting residents to two upcoming community connect events for the Northeast Area. Here you’ll learn about recommendations for land use, transportation, and more for the Northeast Area Plan. Additionally, the City is seeking input from residents on what physical improvements they'd like to see in the Greater Sandburg and Burke Heights neighborhoods. The first event is August 15, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Reindahl Park. The second event will take place August 16, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Sycamore Park. With free ice cream and food catered by La Taguara, firetruck tours, therapy animals, games, and face painting, residents are encouraged to make it a fun family outing!

What goes into the Plan?

The Northeast Area Plan addresses land use, transportation, housing, parks, storm water management, economic development, historic & cultural resources, and more. In order for this project to be successful, equitable and inclusive public participation is key.

The City is dedicated to ensuring the plan is accessible to a broad audience, including people who are traditionally underrepresented.

The City needs your input to help guide $200,000 in federal funding for near-term physical improvement for each neighborhood. In other parts of the City, this funding has been used for:

Lighting on public streets & pathways
Permanent community gathering spaces
Park facility improvements
Public artwork

New Planning Framework

The Northeast Area Plan is one of the first to use the City’s new Planning framework that was approved by Common Council last summer. This shift in the Planning process aims to simplify and standardize the City’s sub-area planning, with a goal of achieving more equitable outcomes. The new Planning Framework covers the entire city with 12 discrete Area Plan geographies.
