FINAL OPEN HOUSE: Northport-Warner Park-Sherman Neighborhood Plan 4/18

posted

The Northport-Warner Park-Sherman neighborhoods are invited to the FINAL OPEN HOUSE to view draft neighborhood plan recommendations that can help make the community an even better place to live, work, do business, and enjoy area parks and open spaces this Saturday April 18 at the Northside TownCenter, former True Value store, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. "We've spent many productive work sessions delving deep into what's going to be best for the Northside," Steering Committee member Pat Steele, stated at a recent meeting. "Its time to once again hear from residents, business owners and others about what they think should be prioritized in the final plan. We hope to see many people from all corners of the Northside come out to the April 18 event." District 18 Alderperson Michael Schumacher and District 12 Alderperson Satya Rhodes-Conway, Steering Committee members and City staff will be there to explain the draft plan recommendations in the areas of land use, redevelopment and urban design, housing, transportation, economic development, parks, open space and natural resources, neighborhood and personal safety, and community facilities. This is the final community-wide opportunity to let the Steering Committee know what recommendations from the draft plan are most important. The draft neighborhood plan will also be placed on the webpage, at community centers, the Lakeview Library and the City Planning office starting next week. The Steering Committee will accept comments until Wednesday May 13. Next steps include Steering Committee review and consideration of public input for incorporation into the final draft plan, and City Committee and Commission review and approval of the plan later this Summer or Fall. The Committee and Commission meetings will be open to the public and a final draft plan will be available for review. From 1991-1992, the City of Madison, Northside residents, social service providers, and the business community worked together to prepare a 10-year plan. This current planning initiative updates the existing plan to determine what is still important to Northsiders and to provide recommendations to maintain what people like about the community and to address issues and opportunities for change. Neighborhood planning can help communities create positive change. Come let the Steering Committee know what's most important to you!
