Madison Suspends Refuse and Recycling Collection Due to Snow

posted

The Streets Division has suspended refuse and recycling collection Thursday. Crews did get out and collect from many households but were unable to provide service in many areas of the Thrusday collection areas due to road conditions. "We were able to collect material in many areas of the Thursday collection district," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "However, we could not provide service on dead ends, cul de sacs and hilly areas. We had trucks getting stuck and decided to stop collection." Sections of the Thursday area that were not collected today will be picked up on Friday. Service will also be provided in the Friday areas. Large item collection was suspended on Wednesday. Large item crews and vehicles have been used on snow operations throughout the day and will not be collecting large items on Friday. A decision on when to resume large item collection will be made next week. The Street Division will announce when the collection will resume. Residents are asked to hold on to their large items until collection resumes. "Items already placed at the curb can remain there, but they may have to be dug out of the snow banks by residents before they can be collected," Dreckmann said. Large items can also be brought to the City's drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Av. The sites are currently open winter hours M-F form 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Use of these sites is limited to City of Madison residents and property owners only.
