Regular Brush Collection Over for the Season

posted

The Streets Division has concluded regular brush collection for the season.  The brush collection season began in April and concluded last week.  Just over 5,000 tons of brush was collected this season.

Regular brush collection is conducted form the first Monday in April through early October.  There is no set schedule for collection.  Crews cover the city in a set rotation.  The rotation system as resulted in more frequent collections and a reduction in overtime costs for the service.

“We will continue to have brush crews working in the neighborhoods as often as we can,” Madison strategic initiatives coordinator George Dreckmann said.  “However, we can no longer guarantee collection. The Streets Division must now dedicate the bulk of our staff to the fall leaf collection so any brush collection will be sporadic.”

Residents should plan to bring their brush to the Streets Division’s drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd or 4602 Sycamore Av.  Brush should not be brought to the site at 402 South Point Rd.  The sites are open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 8 p.m. The sites will remain open these extended hours through Sunday December 7th.

Information on brush collection, the drop off sites and all of the Streets Divisions solid waste and recycling services is available at www.cityofmadison.com/streets and on the My Waste AP.
