PRESS CONFERENCE ON PAY BY CELL PILOT
July 17, 2012
UPDATE: Will be held at 1:30 PM, rather than 1:00 PM
The City of Madison Parking Utility is excited to announce a collaboration with the vendors ParkNOW! and Metric Parking to pilot a Pay by Cell program in the Buckeye Lot. Members of the press and public are invited to join Mayor Paul Soglin, business leaders and others at the official opening on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 1:30 PM, in the Downtown Visitor Center at 452 State Street.
This service will allow customers the convenience of using their cell phone to initiate a parking session, either by calling the local Pay by Cell number of (608) 268-3346, or using the ParkNOW! app, which can be found online at http://parknow.us/. This service uses pre-paid accounts which can be set up using American Express, PayPal, Visa and MasterCard.
In addition there are several features that will further enhance the parking experience. Drivers will not only have the opportunity to extend their parking time remotely (to the legal time allowable), but will also have the ability to pay for actual time parked only, meaning if they return early, they can stop their parking session. There is a convenience fee of 45¢ per transaction, which includes everything associated with each complete parking session.
This should reduce the number of parking citations issued, and improve the quality of the downtown experience for visitors. The Madison business community strongly supports this pilot as it will bring added convenience to all our customers. The steps and instructions for using this service, as well as program information and City of Madison parking information, can be found by visiting us online at www.cityofmadison.com/parkingutility.
