Holiday Safety

The Holiday season is just getting started! The Madison Police Department, and your friendly State Street Officer, want to make this time of year as safe as possible. Generally the State Street and Capitol Square area are very safe. However, there are certainly people who come to that area specifically to prey on citizens and their property. There are a few steps that you can take to keep you and your property safe while you are enjoying the downtown shops and restaurants. First and foremost, keep your vehicle locked at all times. There have been a surprising amount of vehicle thefts over the course of the year. Second, if you leave purchases and valuables in your vehicle, please keep them out of sight. Those who steal are opportunists, and look for easy targets. Third, while you are out shopping, keep your bag or purse on you at all times to reduce the possibility of a purse snatching. While our fair City is a relaxed place to be, I want you all to stay safe! Take care and enjoy the season.
