This hands-on 3-day course provides the student with an understanding of the history of fingerprint science, basic principles of "uniqueness" & "persistence" as the foundation of the science of fingerprint comparison, development of fingerprint classification systems & their current status, including the Henry, NCIC & the IAFIS systems & an introduction to fingerprint comparisons with a focus on ink-to-ink, "ten-print" card comparisons.
Students learn how to classify inked prints & compare that to an NCIC "triple I" / FBI classification. They learn how to compare inked / "live-scan" fingerprints to existing records to confirm identities of arrested persons.
Students learn to identify 3 major classes of fingerprint patterns, i.e., loops, whorls & arches. Students learn to count ridges for classification of loops, how to do tracings of whorl patterns, and how to identify tented arches vs. plain arches.
