Madison Parks is pleased to announce a ground breaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of new splash parks at Reindahl Park and Elver Park.  The groundbreaking event will occur at Elver Park on Wednesday, April 23, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.

Leading the groundbreaking are Mayor Paul Soglin, Alder Joe Clausius, Alder Lisa Subeck, members of the Madison Parks Foundation board and representatives from lead donors – the Madison Community Foundation and the Oscar Rennebohm Foundation.

The splash parks at both locations will feature modern and eco-friendly interactive water attractions with spray toys and fountains for children of all ages. More than 15,000 park-goers will annually enjoy the new recreational facilities, set to open in August 2014 with a Grand Opening event at Reindahl Park.  The splash parks will not have admission and will offer a complement to the Goodman Pool and Madison Beaches for summer aquatics recreational opportunities for children.  Both parks are large community parks with ample facilities to support these new amenities.

“A lot of work has went into getting to the point of construction, and I am very excited to see these two important projects for City residents moving forward in 2014,” says District 17 Alder Joe Clausius who serves on both the Board of Parks Commissioners and the Madison Parks Foundation Board.  “These free, family focused amenities will have a significant positive impact on the neighborhoods and residents they serve.  I know that a splash park at Reindahl Park will provide a new recreational opportunity that provides a vibrant community space, bringing together the many diverse residents of the East Side.”

District 1 Alder Lisa Subeck said “I’m thrilled that construction will begin soon on the splash park at Elver Park.  The amenity will be a real asset to our Southwest Side neighborhoods.”

“The construction of splash parks at Reindahl and Elver Parks could not have happened without a close collaboration with the Madison Parks Foundation and the sustained support of elected officials.   Madison Parks recognizes the Madison Parks Foundation for its leadership in securing private funding from partners including Madison Community Foundation, Oscar Rennebohm Foundation, The Evjue Foundation, and American Family Insurance” said Assistant Parks Superintendent Eric Knepp.
“The Madison Parks Foundation is proud to partner with the city raising funds to provide a fun, family friendly asset to two wonderful city parks” states Grant Frautschi, Madison Parks Foundation board president.
Donations are still needed and can be made to the Madison Parks Foundation. For more information about donation opportunities for the splash parks, visit www.madisonparksfoundation.org.
