West District Blotter

Police Activity on Balsam Rd Today

April 30, 2019 5:58 PM

Just after 9:00 am today, MPD responded to an apartment building in the 5800 block of Balsam Rd in the West District for a disturbance between residents.  The investigation resulted in probable cause to arrest one subject and it was determined that subject was in need of medical attention/evaluation.  Due to threats made by that subject, additional resources were dispatched to the scene to assist and traffic was shut down in the immediate area.  A number of uninvolved residents were temporarily displaced from the building.  At approximately 11:50 am, after observing a possible fire inside the apartment, MPD SWAT made entry and detained the subject.  There were no injuries and all uninvolved residents were able to return.

Thank you to MPD Patrol, Detectives, SWAT, K9, Mental Health Unit, Dane County Dispatch, Madison Fire and multiple community members who assisted in bringing this incident to a peaceful resolution.
