Madison Renewed as Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community

posted

I am proud to share that the City of Madison had its status renewed as a League of American Bicyclists recognized Platinum Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC)!

The Platinum award from the League of American Bicyclists

As part of our commitment to be a great place to live and thrive, we applied for renewal of the League of American Bicyclists’ prestigious Bicycle Friendly Community award. It has long been our goal to have a best-in-class transportation system that serves everyone who lives and visits our community, and that includes building a community more accessible by bike. Today, we’re proud to be part of the 480 communities across the United States that are transforming America, one Bicycle Friendly Community at a time.

People across our community are biking more than ever, for commuting, for trips to the store or other errands, for exercise, and often just for fun.

The Platinum BFC award recognizes Madison’s commitment to improving conditions for all people who bike through investments in bike education programs, bike events that promote and encourage people to choose biking, pro-bike policies, and bike infrastructure. We have expanded bike facilities across the City in the last year, including multi-use paths on Hammersley Rd, Atwood Ave, and Dempsey/Davies, as well as cycle tracks on Wilson and Broom.

There are even more improvements currently in construction and planned for future years. We are pleased to celebrate this award and our achievements for building a better community together.
