Become a Crossing Guard to Help Keep Madison Safe
postedEvery day throughout the school year, a team of dedicated people spread out across Madison to help make sure our kids get to school safely. These fine folks stop and direct traffic, greet kids and families with a smile, and help build a culture of safety on our streets. They are our City of Madison Crossing Guards, and they want you to join their ranks.

No prior experience is required to become a crossing guard. The City will provide uniforms and comprehensive paid training to equip staff with the necessary tools to excel in this important role.
In addition to the opportunity to make a vital difference in our community, crossing guards receive:
- $18.91/hr. to start and work 10-15 hours per week.
- Work is Monday-Friday throughout the school year. Winter, spring, and summer breaks are off!
- Crossing guards earn paid sick leave, and qualify for a free annual Metro bus pass. Permanent crossing guards also receive a robust annual uniform clothing allowance.
