Great news, Madison homeowners! I’m excited to share that Wisconsin’s Home Energy Rebates are still available—and they’re making it easier than ever to cut your energy bills, make your home more comfortable year-round, and help us all move toward a cleaner, greener Madison. These rebates are being taken advantage of quickly around the state, so we want you to act now to take advantage of them while funding lasts!

What Are the Home Energy Rebates?

Wisconsin has $149 million to help residents like you make energy-saving upgrades to your homes. Focus on Energy, our trusted statewide energy efficiency program, is administering two major rebate programs: the Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES) and the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR). Whether you want to improve your home’s insulation or switch to efficient electric appliances, these programs can cover 50% or even 100% of your project costs, depending on your income and the upgrades you choose.

HOMES: Home Efficiency Rebates

The HOMES program is all about making your home more energy efficient. You can get rebates for projects like adding insulation, air sealing, or upgrading to ENERGY STAR® heating, cooling, or water heating equipment. The rebate amount depends on your household income and the predicted energy savings from your project. To qualify, your upgrades must be expected to reduce your home’s energy use by at least 20%—and the more you save, the bigger your rebate.

  • All homeowners are eligible to participate in HOMES.
  • Rebates can range from $1,500 up to $10,000, depending on your income, the type of home, and the energy savings achieved.

HEAR: Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates

The HEAR program helps low- and moderate-income households electrify their homes. This means you can get rebates for installing electric heat pumps, swapping out your gas stove for an electric one, or upgrading your home’s electrical system to support future clean energy upgrades like solar panels or electric vehicle charging.

Key details:

  • Only households earning 150% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or less are eligible.
  • If your income is below 80% of AMI, you can get 100% of project costs covered, up to $14,000. If you’re between 80% and 150% of AMI, you can get 50% of project costs covered, up to $14,000.
  • Eligible upgrades include electric heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, electrical panel upgrades, and more. All equipment must be ENERGY STAR certified.

Why This Matters for Madison

These rebates are a win-win for Madison families and our city’s climate goals. Not only can you save thousands on upgrades, but you’ll also see lower monthly energy bills and a more comfortable home. Plus, by reducing energy use and electrifying our homes, we’re cutting greenhouse gas emissions and building a healthier future for everyone.
