Playing It Safe & Smart: A Guide to Enjoying Golf Madison Parks
posted
As we welcome golfers of all ages and skill levels to our courses this season, we want to take a moment to highlight what makes a round of golf at Madison Parks not just enjoyable—but also safe, respectful, and fun for everyone.
Golf is a game rooted in tradition, etiquette, and community. Whether you're out for a casual nine or playing a full 18, being mindful of your surroundings and fellow players enhances the experience for all.
Respect the Course & Your Fellow Golfers
Every player has a role in keeping our courses in great shape. A simple act like repairing your ball mark on the green or replacing a divot in the fairway not only maintains course conditions—it also helps everyone enjoy smoother, more playable surfaces. These small actions add up in a big way.
Earlier this year, one of our loyal golfers was struck in the back of the head by an errant shot coming from another hole. As a result, they were unable to complete their round and required transportation to the hospital. Fortunately, they have recovered and returned to the course. We’d like to use this incident as a reminder of the importance of safe and courteous play. Player safety is a top priority. If your shot goes off target, always yell "Fore!" This quick call could prevent an injury and is a basic, essential part of golf etiquette. Being aware of others on the course—whether in your group or a few fairways over—shows respect and contributes to a safe playing environment.
The Golfer’s Code of Conduct
At Golf Madison Parks, we believe that municipal golf should be inclusive, welcoming, and accessible to all. The Golfer’s Code of Conduct reflects our commitment to creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone—whether you're playing, visiting, or working at one of our four municipal golf courses.
The purpose of this Code is to ensure that our courses are safe, respectful spaces where everyone—regardless of background or experience—feels welcome. It helps us tear down outdated stereotypes of exclusivity in golf and fosters stronger relationships within our community. Just as importantly, the Code provides clear expectations for behavior and gives our staff the tools to address issues fairly and consistently when needed.
We ask all players to:
- Respect the Players and Staff: Treat fellow golfers and staff members with kindness and courtesy. A little patience and positivity go a long way in creating a better experience for everyone.
- Respect the Course and Clubhouse: Help us keep the courses and facilities clean, safe, and enjoyable. Follow posted rules, care for the grounds, and model good course etiquette.
- Help Us Keep Golf Fun and Fair for All: By following the Code of Conduct, you’re helping ensure that golf in Madison remains welcoming, equitable, and enjoyable for everyone who steps onto the course.
We’re proud to provide municipal golf that reflects the values of our city. Thank you for helping us uphold those values every time you play.
We'll see you on the course!
