Event Description

We are exited to be a participant in the Wisconsin Science Festival this year. Join us for this special Badger Talks presentation by Dr. Michal Engelman.

The Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS) has followed members of Wisconsin's high school graduating class of 1957 for nearly 70 years. This talk introduces the study, describing its origins as a study of education and social mobility and its transformation into one of the nation's premier resources for the study of health and aging. The talk provides an overview of the rich data collected over the years and highlights key findings from recent research linking early and mid-life factors to physical, mental, and cognitive health in later life.

Dr. Michal Engelman is a demographer and gerontologist whose research combines perspectives from the social sciences and public health to examine the social determinants of health and longevity. At UW-Madison, she directs the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, the Center for Demography of Health and Aging, and the Collaboration Headquarters for the University's RISE-THRIVE initiative
