Project Information

Project Overview

City Traffic Engineering tested the removal of the morning and afternoon peak-hour travel lanes on Williamson Street between Blount Street and Thornton Avenue.

The test took place from Tuesday, September 9 through Friday, October 24. During the test, Traffic Engineering staff will collect traffic data, including volumes, speeds, and travel time data.

Community feedback was gathered using several methods including a survey.

Project Limits

Williamson Street peak-hour lane removal test area, from S. Blount St to S Thornton Ave.
Project limits: Williamson Street from Blount Street to Thornton Avenue

Test traffic pattern

  • Williamson Street will allow one lane of traffic in both directions, at all times
  • On-street parking will remain available at all times on both sides of the street
  • A new Thursday parking restriction will be implemented to allow for trash and recycling collection and other maintenance such as brush and leaf collection and street sweeping, which has typically been performed during the peak hour parking restrictions.
  • Parking will be restricted further back from intersections to allow thru traffic to bypass left-turning vehicles during peak hours.
