The City Clerk's Office serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking information about the City of Madison, Dane County, or the State of Wisconsin.

Election Administration

The City Clerk's Office impartially oversees all elections held in the City of Madison, ensuring every vote is counted by educating voters and providing comprehensive training for up to 1,800 election officials.

License Administration

The City Clerk's Office processes over 100 types of license applications for the City of Madison and Dane County, issuing over 10,000 licenses and permits a year.

Support for the Common Council and Alcohol License Review Committee

The City Clerk's Office prepares the agendas and minutes for the Common Council and the Alcohol License Review Committee.

Open Meetings

The City Clerk's Office provides the public with notice of all city meetings to fully comply with the state's open meetings law, and trains other city agencies on how to prepare agendas and minutes.
