Commercial Building Plan Review Fees
Note: Please round all fees to the next dollar. For priority review, double the necessary fees (applicable for commercial building plan review fees only)
Building Plans New & Addition
- $100.00 minimum or $.03/sq. ft.
- Fee includes structural if submitted with the plans.
- Include State Administrative Review Fees for buildings over 5,000 sq. ft.
HVAC New & Addition
- $100.00 minimum or $.02/sq. ft.
- Include State Administrative Review Fees for buildings over 5,000 sq. ft.
Alterations & Remodeling
- $100.00 minimum or $.04/sq. ft.
- Fee includes structural and HVAC if submitted together.
- Include State Administrative Review Fees for alterations over 10,000 sq. ft.
Structural Review
- $50.00 One component (Trusses/Precast/Tower)
- $75.00 Two components or Metal Building structural plans
Miscellaneous
- $100.00 (Fire Escapes, Grand Stands, other plans not mentioned)
Revisions
- $100.00 (No fee if revisions are requested by the reviewer to previously reviewed plans)

Other Site Plan Review Fees
- Permit to Plug or Abandon Sewer Lateral(s)
Owner shall pay the sum of $1,000 (payable to City of Madison Treasurer) per plug at the time of filling the required permit to cover the cost to inspect and verify this work. Upon completion and inspection of the work, $900 per plug will be refunded to the applicant.
- Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Fees
Fees determined based on type of site, area of disturbance, and impervious area of the site. Fee calculator is included in the permit form.
- Permit to Excavate in the Right of Way
Fees are based on the base permit fee, inspection fee, and street degradation fee and vary depending on the work covered in the permit.
- Other Development Fees
Park Fees, City Area Charges, Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District Fees, Impact Fees, and Real Estate Fees vary and are all done on a case-by-case basis requiring additional staff review.
