Self-Report Stolen License Plates

The Self-Reporting Unit (SRU) is available for you to use to report non-emergency incidents. If a crime is in progress, or if this is an emergency, DIAL 911.

Before reporting license plates stolen review these steps:

  • If only one license plate was stolen, immediately remove the remaining license plate and discontinue its use. (Failure to do so may result in officers thinking you are the person using the stolen license plate, and you may be pulled over.)
  • Cancel the license plate registration through the Department of Transportation and request new license plates. You may do this online, by mail or in person at a DMV service center.
  • Notify the police department if your stolen license plate is recovered.
