Cieslewicz Names New City Clerk for Madison

Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz announced today that Diane Hermann-Brown has been selected as the next City Clerk for the City of Madison. Hermann-Brown has served as the City Clerk for the City of Sun Prairie for the past 11 years. “I am pleased that we have found such a well-qualified individual to fill this vital role in city government,” said Cieslewicz. “The City Clerk is responsible for many critical activities, including conducting the City’s elections process. I am very confident that Diane will do an outstanding job as our next City Clerk.” Hermann-Brown comes to Madison with 21 years of municipal government experience. A Certified Public Manager, she also has certifications as a Wisconsin Professional Municipal Clerk, 1st Level Master Municipal Clerk, and Certified Municipal Clerk. As City Clerk, Ms. Hermann-Brown will conduct elections, process licenses, and support the Common Council. Her annual salary will be $75,000. “I am looking forward to this opportunity to work for the City of Madison,” said Hermann-Brown. “There will be many exciting and challenging times ahead for the City Clerk’s office with upcoming election law changes and the other responsibilities of the department.” Hermann-Brown’s selection is subject to approval by the Madison Common Council. Her tentative start date is June 5. She replaces Sharon Christensen who is retiring after 37 years of exemplary service to the City of Madison. Christensen has been serving as Acting City Clerk since the retirement of long-time City Clerk Ray Fisher earlier this year.
