Mayor Announces Goodman Pool to Remain Open Late This Weekend

Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz today announced that the Goodman Pool will be open for an additional hour tonight, Friday night and Saturday night due to forecasts of high heat and humidity. The pool will be open until 9:00 pm, instead of the typical closing time of 8:00 pm. “For the first time in the history of our city, area residents can seek relief from the summer heat in our city pool,” Cieslewicz said. “Given the high temperatures and humidity forecast for the next several days, we are keeping the Goodman Pool open late so as many people as possible are able to cool off during the summer’s first extended heat wave. This is a great chance to come down and enjoy this great new facility.” According to Cieslewicz, attendance at the pool since it opened a month ago on June 12th is far ahead of projections. “Attendance numbers are inching toward 30,000 in just four short weeks, when we projected total summer attendance of 55,000 over 11 weeks,” he said. Cieslewicz reminded residents that for safety reasons, no more than 1,000 patrons can be in attendance at any one time. If the pool facility reaches its capacity, as is likely on hot weekend days, patrons will be asked to wait at the gate until others leave. Cieslewicz asked patrons to be cognizant that others may be waiting and encouraged residents to be patient as they wait in line. He also suggested that patrons take the bus, carpool or bike to the Goodman Pool because parking is limited. The Goodman Pool is located at 325 Olin Avenue on Madison’s south side. Daily admission prices range from $2.00 for children to $3.50 for non-Madison residents. Season passes are also available for sale at the pool.
