Mayor Praises Chamber's Opposition to Civil Unions & Marriage Ban

posted

Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz praised today’s statement by the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce against the proposed civil unions and marriage ban. This follows the recent announcement by another prominent business group, Downtown Madison Inc. (DMI), opposing the discriminatory measure. “The Greater Madison Chamber recognizes that the proposed civil unions and marriage ban would set back economic development in our community,” said Cieslewicz. “It would enshrine discrimination in our constitution, and send exactly the wrong message to potential employers and employees alike. Today’s announcement demonstrates that Madison’s business community is the most forward-thinking in the nation. “In an economy that thrives on talented employees, sending any kind of message that is unwelcoming is a mistake. But if we can be the first state in the nation to turn back the tide of this kind of discrimination, Madison’s economy and Madison’s families will benefit.”
