Cieslewicz Statement on Inclusionary Zoning Court Decision

posted

Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made the following statement today regarding the Court of Appeals decision on the rental portion of Madison’s Inclusionary Zoning ordinance: “Today’s decision is a blow to families seeking affordable rental housing. Renters generally must spend more of their family income on housing than homeowners, so Inclusionary Zoning is especially important for them. We are currently reviewing our options in light of today’s decision, including a possible appeal to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. “It is important to note that today’s decision only impacts the rental portion of Inclusionary Zoning. The remainder of the ordinance remains in effect. Given the recent improvements we have made to the ordinance, I am confident that it will play an increasingly important role in keeping housing affordable for all Madison families.”
