Mayor Takes Steps to Assist Allied Drive Residents

Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said today that City leaders are taking steps to assist a number of Allied Drive residents facing eviction or relocation from their homes at the end of December. A private property owner in the Allied Drive neighborhood recently decided to remove all residents from three of his buildings in response to serious nuisance abatement and building renovation issues. In response, the City is making a special $4,500 contribution to the Community Action Coalition’s eviction prevention fund for impacted residents who meet CAC’s criteria for assistance. In addition, the Mayor’s office and other City officials will be meeting with the property manager for the buildings early next week to develop further strategies for assisting these residents. “My office is committed to working with Allied Drive residents, property owners and community service agencies to address this difficult situation, especially during the holiday season,” said Cieslewicz. “I appreciate the efforts of the property owner to improve the condition of these buildings, but am also sensitive to the challenges faced by the residents who would be impacted by these efforts. I hope that we are able to minimize the disruption for Allied Drive residents, while allowing the property owner to continue his efforts to improve the living conditions in these buildings.”
