Winter Weather Update: Dec. 10, 2007

posted

Madison - City crews continued work this weekend on cleanup efforts related to last week's series of snowfalls. Work over the weekend focused on several areas, including removal of snow piles that reduced driver visibility; snow removal from Metro bus stops and crosswalks; and sanding and salting operations where needed. Cleanup efforts in the downtown area are now being assisted by the towing of vehicles that still have not been moved by their owners. The continued presence of these vehicles was creating significant problems for snow removal from downtown streets. Specific areas are being posted as temporary no parking zones, with vehicle owners given 48 hours notice to move their vehicles. Once the posted areas are clear of vehicles, city crews are able to completely plow the street to the curb, allowing for wider travel lanes and more parking. Residents and businesses with questions or concerns about their street conditions can contact the Streets Division at 246-4532 (East), or 266-4681 (West). Complaints regarding sidewalk cleanup can be directed to Building Inspection at (608) 266-4551. Comments on any issues can also be submitted via the Report-a-Problem website: http://www.cityofmadison.com/reportAProblem. # # # # #
