Gallery Night: "The Writing's on the Wall" at Central Library
On Friday, October 1, join local artists and graphic designers for an opening reception for "The Writing's on the Wall," at the Madison Public Library Central Library (201 W. Mifflin St., 266-6350). An invitational group show, "The Writing's on the Wall" celebrates the fine art of type, the beauty of letter forms, and the power of narrative text and graphic design. This event is a part of Madison's Gallery Night, sponsored by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. A group show spanning media and forms, "The Writing's on the Wall" features the works of fine art printmakers (including intaglio, relief, and screen printers), graphic designers, book artists, painters and mixed media artists. See the power and beauty of type in Fine Art, the Fine Art of Graphic Design and vice versa, as much of this work belongs in both worlds. Curated by S.V. Medaris. Artists Include: S.V. Medaris, Laura Komai, Karen Timm, Suzanne Berland, Yael Gen, Heather Lins, Larry Welo, Erin O'Connor, Cynde Quinn, and Michael Martin. Join artists for an opening reception in the Central Library Gallery Space from 5 - 9 p.m. on Friday, October 1. Refreshments will be served. "The Writing's on the Wall" will be on exhibit in the Central Library Gallery through October 31st. Also on exhibit, through January, Christine Lee's Acoustic Panel Installation is on display on the first floor. This piece is made from acoustic tiles salvaged from the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College. Lee is a visiting artist in the sculpture department at The University of Wisconsin Madison. When you come in the library, just look up! Visitors to the library will be able to see Lee's installation on Gallery Night as well.
