The Madison Police Department, in concert with Target Corporation, will be sponsoring National Night Out, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night, August 2nd, in the 200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., which is in front of the City County Building. "The event is a means of promoting community awareness of crime and to build a stronger relationship between the community and the police," said MPD Crime Prevention Officer Frank Chandler. Brochures and fliers on home security and personal safety will be available from the MPD, and Madison Parks Department staff will provide information on the parks watch program. The MPD will have representatives from many of its' units on site: K9 (will do a demonstration), motorcycle team, bicycle team, crime prevention, safety education, crime stoppers, Special Events Team (SET), and SWAT, will all be available. National Night Out is an opportunity for friends, neighbors and businesses to gather to learn more about personal safety and property security. "It is an opportunity to show neighborhood spirit, and strengthen needed partnerships," said Officer Chandler, adding, "It also demonstrates our citizens' commitment to help us fight crime."
