Injured Worker Rescued From Trench

Madison Firefighters were called to 718 W. Brittingham Place at 9:36 AM this morning for an injured worker. When rescuers arrived, they found the injured man in a construction trench in the middle of the street. Paramedics entered the trench and provided medical care to the worker while firefighters prepared to lift him out of the trench. An aerial ladder and rope rescue equipment were used to safely raise the injured man out of the trench. Paramedics then transported the worker to UW Hospital. The City of Madison Fire Department responds to many types of emergencies. Any emergency requiring technical rescue techniques will initiate the response of the Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT). This team, comprised of 76 members, is trained and equipped to respond to a variety of emergencies that include, but are not limited to: • Confined space rescue • High/low angle rope rescue • Trench collapse rescue • Building collapse rescue
