You are invited to attend artist proposal presentations for Madison's next major public art project, a site specific public art piece for Rotary Centennial Plaza on Wisconsin's capitol square. The artists who have been selected to design proposals for the land at the corner of N Pinckney St and N Hamilton St will soon have the opportunity to present their project concepts to the selection committee. Artist Presentations have been scheduled at various times over three days in October. Citizens who are interested in the design of Madison's public spaces are encouraged to attend any or all of these open public meetings of the North Pinckney Street Plaza Selection Committee. At the proposal presentation sessions, the audience will have the chance to hear the artists talk about their approach to the site and present concept sketches and models of their proposals. Attendees will consider if the proposed art work satisfies what they believe are important standards for a work of public art in our City, specifically for Rotary Plaza and the Capitol Square. Feedback forms will be available so the public can share their reactions with members of the selection committee (comments will be registered into the public record of the meeting). This is an important opportunity to help guide the selection committee members and let them know if residents believe the proposed projects will create a lasting enhancement to our community. Four unique proposals will be presented by the following artists on the following dates and times in room 260 of the Madison Municipal Building at 215 Martin Luther King Blvd: 1) October 18, 2011 at 11:00am Actual Size Artworks (Gail Simpson/Aris Georgiades), Stoughton, WI 2) October 19, 2011 at 2:00pm Aaron Stephan, Portland, ME 3) October 19, 2011 at 3:00pm David Boyer, Reno, NV 4) October 20, 2011 at 11:00am David Dahlquist, DesMoines, IA You can view the RFQ and examples of the finalist's past work, at the Madison Arts Commission website under Public Art - Current Projects & RFQs Images RFQ If you are interested in the Rotary Centennial Plaza Public Art Project but you are unable to attend the presentation proposal sessions, models and concept drawings will be displayed on the Madison Arts Commission website (www.cityofmadison.com/mac under "public art, current projects" and in an area of the Madison Children's Musuem that is free and open to the public (October 21 - October 25).
