Apartment Fire Causes $25,000 in Damage
Residents of The Meadows Apartment were forced out of their 8-unit, 2 story complex shortly before 11:00 pm. When City of Madison Fire crews arrived at 245 N. Thompson Drive, fire alarms were sounding and a slight smoke haze lingered in the hallways. Firefighters entered Apartment #7 and noticed a slight discoloration in the drywall and the smell of smoke. Crews opened up the wall and saw flames in the attic space and quickly extinguished the fire. Residents called 911 and said they could smell smoke in their building. Fire damage to Apartment #7 is estimated at $25,000. The fire is under investigation. City of Madison Fire Department remind residents to: Leave the Building When the Fire Alarm Sounds • Exit the building when you hear the fire alarm sound. Even if you believe it was just an accidental alarm, you should leave until you know exactly why the alarm is sounding. • Wait outside of the building for the fire fighters to make a complete inspection of the building. They will tell you when it is safe to return to the building. Do not return inside until given full clearance from fire officials.
