Madison Firefighters Make Quick Work of Extinguishing Restaurant Fire
A new restaurant just days away from opening was the scene of a fire on the west side of Madison this evening. City of Madison firefighters responded to KJ's Curry Bowl, 7005 Tree Lane, at 8:25 p.m. Ladder Company 2 was first in. Though flames were not visible as the crew rolled up, firefighters observed smoke banking down in the restaurant. Ladder 2's crew forced entry through a glass front door and found the fire in the kitchen area. Sprinklers in the building had already deployed, holding the fire in check. Firefighters completed the extinguishment within 5 minutes of their arrival. The building houses several businesses, including a dental office above the restaurant. That office had some minor smoke damage, but no other businesses were damaged in the fire. There was no one in the restaurant when the fire began and no one was injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damages are estimated at $20,000. The restaurant was scheduled to open on May 26. Public Health Madison & Dane County was contacted and will inspect the restaurant and its inventory before the new business can open.
