Keep your New Year Resolutions at MSC

The Madison Senior Center offers something for every New Year’s resolution: read more, learn about electronic devices and social media, take care of your health, try some yoga, organize your things, learn to draw, take some photos and plan for the future.  Sign up for a class or two to enrich your life in 2014. Meet the Author: John Zimm        
Drawing from more than 11,000 letters in the Wisconsin Historical Society's Civil War collection, This Wicked Rebellion: Wisconsin Civil War Soldiers Write Home gives a unique and intimate glimpse of the men and women who took part in the War for the Union. Meet author John Zimm on Tuesday, January 14 at 1 pm.
 
Introduction to iPads 
Learn all about your iPad—whether it’s brand new or you’ve had it for a while. Join instructor Amy Moschkau on Tuesday, January 7 and 14 from 1 – 3 pm for set-up information, downloading apps and some useful tips.  $20 fee.   
 
Facebook for Beginners
Learn how to find and keep in touch with children, grandchildren, and old friends using Facebook, today’s most popular social media website.  Instructor Amy Moschkau will help with terminology, finding friends, and keeping your information private. Leave with step-by-step instructions to start your own account on Tuesday, January 28 from 1 – 3 pm.  $12 fee. 
 
Women's Health
This interactive talk is designed to better educate both men and women on female gender-specific health issues. Join Dr. Kyle Nye and Dr. Bailey Nye on Thursday, January 16 at 12:15 pm as they discuss how nutritional requirements change as we age (for both men and women) as well as ways to minimize the effects of menopause on the body. Learn about osteoporosis intervention and reproductive organ health. Women and men alike are highly encouraged to attend this workshop.  
 
Tibetan Yogas of Breath and Movement
Learn about Tibetan yogic practices of breath and movement. Tsa means channel and lung means vital breath or wind. The tsa lung exercises work with the breath and seated physical movements in five chakra locations within your body.  Release patterns that restrict your life and cultivate positive qualities with ease. Join Anne Forbes, a practice leader and graduate of The Three Doors Academy, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, 1-2:30 pm, January 7 and 21 and February 4 and 18.  There is no charge, but kindly register..

Many people put off or ignore developing a sound estate plan, but it's one of the most important things an individual can create, no matter how old you are. Digital Camera Workshop
New camera? Do you want to improve your digital photos?  Explore the various types of digital cameras and how their features and controls help you achieve better pictures. Solve the problems of exposure, camera shake, red-eye, and get an introduction to photo editing.  Join Instructor John Lorimer on Thursdays, January 16 and 23 from 9:30 – 11:30 am.  $20 fee. 
 
Home Health, Palliative Care and Hospice?
What is the difference?  An expert from Home Health United will share details of these options for care and address the transition process.  They will discuss how these services keep individuals safe and independent in their own homes. Register for this presentation on Tuesday, January 14 at 10 am.

Do you need help getting a particular room or area re-organized? Have you accumulated too much paper? Would you like a fresh look to your home? Learn to Draw!
Looking to stimulate your brain?  Take a drawing class! Learn the basics of drawing everyday items.  Bring your own sketchbook (8.5" x 11.5" or larger), a graphite pencil and an eraser.  Join Art Instructor Ayza-Andriana Churina for 6 weeks beginning Tuesday, January 14 – February 18 from 9:30 – 11 am.  $20 fee [minimum 6 people].
