City Engineering crews locate, remove blockage within hour of discovery

The City of Madison had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a sanitary access structure located in the public right-of-way west of the South Park  westbound on ramp to the Beltline. The discharge was detected on Friday, March 7,  at approximately 2:30 PM.  Within one hour City Engineering crews had located and removed the blockage to prevent further discharge.

Prior to the City crew’s arrival on-site untreated wastewater entered the storm water system and flowed to the storm water retention pond in the southwest quadrant of the Park Street/Highway 18/151 interchange before ultimately discharging to the Nine Springs Creek. Booms were installed to prevent additional untreated wastewater from entering the storm water system.
