Madison’s Annual Water Quality Report released today as part of “Drinking Water Week”

Madison, WI – May 5, 2014 Governor Scott Walker has declared May 4th through 10th “Safe Drinking Water Week” across Wisconsin. It’s part of a national effort to draw attention to the people who bring us safe, reliable drinking water every day – and the critical infrastructure that makes it possible.
There is perhaps no better example of the value of our water system than what took place this past winter, when utility crews across the state worked virtually around the clock in brutal temperatures to keep the water running as mains and service pipes began to freeze. In Madison, crews repaired 267 main breaks during the first three months of the year and thawed more than 300 frozen service laterals.
Annual Water Quality Report Release
As part of Drinking Water Week, Madison Water Utility is releasing its annual Water Quality Report, which summarizes the thousands of quality and safety tests the utility performed in 2013. The results show that once again, Madison’s water met or exceeded all federal and state standards for health, quality and safety.
“This report provides an opportunity for our customers to learn more about the water they use every day,” says MWU water quality manager Joe Grande.
Grande adds that Madison Water Utility goes above and beyond federal and state requirements when it comes to testing.
“We’re doing a lot of tests not just to meet the regulations but to better understand our water,” he says. “We take water quality seriously. We’re thinking about our customers when we are planning our testing programs, and we’re trying to provide the highest quality water possible.”
More than 130,000 homes and businesses across Madison will be getting a postcard in the mail directing them to the following webpage where they can access the full report:
