Homeowner Displaced After Kitchen Fire

Madison Fire Department firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish a kitchen fire in a single family home on the west side late Thursday afternoon.

MFD crews were called to the scene by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the house.  The passerby called 911, ran to the house to alert the homeowner, and escorted her to safety.

Ladder 2 (L2) was first on-scene and reported smoke showing from the rear side of the house.  The Lieutenant from L2 did a 360-degree assessment and determined the best route of attack.  Rapid entry was made in through the front door of the house and an attack made on the fire.  Initial knockdown of the fire occurred within 4 minutes of Ladder 2 arriving.  Fire had extended into the attic space, and was extinguished shortly after.

Additional units responded and assisted with ventilation, overhaul and salvage operations.

The single homeowner was uninjured in the blaze, and her two dogs were rescued by quick acting Madison firefighters. 

A total of 9 fire apparatus and 34 personnel responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and there are no damage estimates available at this time.
