Sales displays can sometimes mask store exits, so take an extra moment to orient yourself so you can exit quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.
Don't let your hunt for a bargain put you into the middle of a rush or stampede of shoppers when doors open to the public.
Remember to stop, look, and listen in crowded parking lots. It's likely that drivers are more focused on finding a parking spot than watching for pedestrians.
