Madison Firefighters Contain Fire to Single Apartment, 4 Occupants Displaced

Four people were displaced following a fire in their 12-unit, Westside apartment building this evening.

Madison firefighters were called to 1321 Temkin Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. after a neighbor heard the building alarm go off. As he exited the building, he noted light smoke in hallway, soot on the door of the apartment next to his, and the door knob was warm to the touch. He called 911 after evacuating. 

Ladder Company 2 and Medic 2 arrived minutes later and found thick black smoke coming from the entry to the building. Crews conducted a search, but found no occupants remaining in the building.

Ladder 2 and Engine 9 quickly pulled an attack line, using a thermal imaging camera to locate the seat of the fire. Firefighters knocked down the fire within ten minutes of their arrival.
There were no injuries.

Early estimates place the damage at up to $50,000.

Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
