Statement of Madison Mayor Paul Soglin on the Death of George Nelson

The City of Madison and the entire State of Wisconsin will long remember George Nelson. He loved working on incredible challenges that improved our City. George’s contribution to the creation of the Madison Civic Center cannot be overstated. When it was time to end 60 years of frustration and build Monona Terrace, George was the only person who could lead a civic strategy to unite the City and then Dane County and the State of Wisconsin. When it came time to elevate the Madison Civic Center to Overture, George's advice and insight was critical. He will be missed and our love for him will never end. We are humbled by his contribution.
