Winter Disc Golf Arriving Soon!

posted

You asked. We listened! Winter Disc Golf is arriving at Madison Parks. Beginning at 12:00pm on Monday, November 28 the disc golf course at Yahara Hills Golf Course will officially open.

The idea was born at a local meeting with Mad City Disc Golf Club. Through design consultation from Don “Duster” Hoffman, Park Ranger Ben Jackson, an avid disc golfer, eyed and measured the shots and molded the course. Ben shared, “it was an honor and a privilege to work with Duster, one of the industry’s top disc golf designers and a pioneer of Wisconsin disc golf.”

Funded through the disc golf permit, this all new, pay-to-play course features 18 holes. The first two offers a changing elevation and window shot obstacles, and the third requires skirting the pond for a dry shot. The course continues through the grassland with blind spots, window shots and an elevated basket shot. The back-nine offer a difficult play skirting a second pond with tight barriers, an alley shot that will leave the experienced player chopping wood. The last three test players in length with the final at 525’ and a par 5.

Complementing the opening and closing of the existing disc golf courses at Elver and Hiestand parks, the course at Yahara Hills is anticipated to remain open until the spring thaw, allowing for year-round disc golf play. During the season, we will be evaluating course use to measure its success for future years. Elver and Hiestand courses will be closed for the season beginning Tuesday, November 29.
