Madison’s Annual Water Quality Report is out

Every home in Madison is getting a postcard in the mail with important information about the city’s drinking water. The cards announce the release of this year’s Annual Water Quality Report, an overview of the tens of thousands of drinking water quality and safety tests Madison Water Utility conducted in 2016. Test results show the city’s water once again met or exceeded all Federal and State requirements for health and safety.

Madison Water Utility takes the quality of the city’s water very seriously, routinely collecting more samples and running more tests than are actually required by the Environmental Protection Agency and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Madison’s drinking water system is made up of 840 miles of water main, 30 reservoirs and 22 active wells that draw water from a sandstone aquifer below the city. All Madison Water Utility facilities are monitored 24 hours-a-day, and drinking water safety tests are conducted daily at every operating well and reservoir in Madison.
