Matt Wachter to Lead Madison’s Office of Real Estate Services

Madison Mayor Paul R. Soglin announced today that Matt Wachter, the City’s Housing Initiatives Specialist since 2013, has been named Manager of the Office of Real Estate Services in the City’s Economic Development Division.

Wachter has worked for the City’s Community Development Authority since 2013 were he was responsible for crafting the City’s housing policy through the Biennial Housing report as well as leading efforts to develop affordable housing including permanent supportive housing for Madison’s homeless population at Rethke Terrace, Tree Lane Family Housing, and 1202 S. Park. Previously, Wachter served in the City’s Community Development Division, as a consultant in the private sector, and as staff in the Office of Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. He has an MBA in Real Estate Finance and Urban Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

The Office of Real Estate Services oversees the acquisition, sale and leasing of City real estate as well as the negotiation of Tax Increment Finance (TIF) investment and other real estate agreements with private developers and businesses.

"Matt’s broad experience in a variety of complex real estate projects on behalf of the City gives me confidence that he will be an excellent leader for the office and a good partner with other city agencies, residents, businesses, and developers." Soglin said.

Wachter is set to begin in the new role immediately.
