Madison Fire Department Suspends All Burn Permits Until Further Notice

posted

The City of Madison Fire Department is suspending all burn permits in the City of Madison, Town of Blooming Grove, and Village of Shorewood Hills effective immediately. This restriction will remain in place until further notice.

All burn permits are being suspended for the following reasons:

  1. To comply with Wisconsin’s “Safer At Home” order;
  2. To remain in consistent with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' suspension of burn permits;
  3. To keep our firefighters safe.
Prescribed burning can generate fire department responses to investigate reports of smoke and/or fire. This suspension of burn permits will keep emergency responders available to manage COVID-19 preparations and other emergency calls while reducing non-essential public exposure.

Questions about these burn permit restrictions can be directed to Fire Code Enforcement Officer Eric Dahl at (608) 261-9845 or edahl@cityofmadison.com.
