The City of Madison Officially Joins the Vision Zero Network

The City of Madison has officially been accepted into the Vision Zero Network. This nationwide collaborative campaign brings together communities committed to zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries -- while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.  As a nonprofit project focused on the safety of all roadway users, the Vision Zero Network is committed to defining, building momentum, and advancing Vision Zero in communities across the United States.

Acceptance into the Vision Zero Network provides Madison with opportunities to connect with other Vision Zero cities, see what has worked for them, and what may work for us.  The Network also offers a number of learning opportunities, lectures and webinars that cover a variety of topics to aid the growth and success of Madison’s own Vision Zero initiative.

“Madison is proud to join the Vision Zero Network. We know that speed reductions, enforcement, education, outreach, and changes in street design have a direct impact in the reduction of traffic related deaths and serious injuries, “said Mayor Rhodes-Conway.  “The ability to learn from projects and outcomes in other cities, as well their methods and strategies will be very useful as we implement our Vision Zero Action Plan.”

Madison began the march to zero almost two years ago.  In that time, many speed reductions, street redesigns, infrastructure improvements, improved biking and walking facilities, and community engagement efforts have already occurred throughout the city.  With the added knowledge of the other cities in the Vision Zero Network, the future of this initiative, and its goal of zero traffic fatalities by 2035, is looking more possible each day.
