Limited Library Service June 29-July 1

posted

All Madison Public Libraries will have limited service from Thursday, June 29-Saturday, July 1 due to scheduled network upgrades. During this time, there will be no access to the following services in Madison Public Library locations:

  • public computers
  • public wifi
  • children's iPads
  • self-check machines
  • library databases
  • printing & copying services
In addition, home users will be unable to access the following:
  • Outerlibrary Loan service
  • wireless printing
  • some library databases

General Service Impacts
LINKcat (linkcat.info) and the library's web site (madisonpubliclibrary.org) will be accessible from non-library locations, though credit cards will not be accepted through LINKcat for lost materials during these days. Customers will need to check out all library materials and holds at service desks, so wait times may be a little longer.  Holds may also take a bit longer to arrive from neighboring libraries.

Database Access from Home/Work
These databases will be available to you outside the library:
  • All BadgerLink databases
  • Kanopy
  • Overdrive/Libby
These databases will not be available to you outside the library:
  • Ancestry
  • All other databases not listed here

Changes affect most South Central Library System Libraries
South Central Library System (SCLS) is a seven county network of public libraries, most of which share a patron and inventory database (LINKcat) and a common internet network.  SCLS is moving its data center during this down time, which means this service reduction will affect all libraries in Dane County as well as most other libraries in Adams, Columbia, Green, Portage, Sauk and Wood counties as well during the same time period.  "We're incredibly grateful for the efficiencies and services that Madison Public Library receives through its membership in the South Central Library System," said Marketing Manager Tana Elias.  "This move allows South Central Library Service to serve all libraries better, which benefits all our library customers."

Madison Public Library staff appreciate your patience through this short period of reduced service.  Watch for updates and announcements throughout the rest of the week on the library's Limited Service page.
