Update Regarding Suspended January 12, 2024 Collection of Trash and Recycling

posted

Due to the severe weather on Friday, January 12, 2024 the Streets Division was unable to complete the collection of trash and recycling carts scheduled for emptying on that day.

Unfortunately, the Streets Division will be unable to go back to the uncollected areas earlier than the normally scheduled collection day due to the significant amount of clean-up duties still pending from the January 12 snowstorm, and other Streets Division services that need to be provided throughout the holiday-shortened work week to come.  We understand the frustration this may cause, and apologize for the inconvenience.

Recycling Collection Information

The only residents who did not receive their recycling collection as scheduled on January 12 live on the west side of Madison.

Streets Division crews will return on Friday, January 19 to collect the recyclables. If you are unable to wait to receive the recycling collection, residents are encouraged to bring their excess to a Streets Division drop-off site.  Drop-off sites are now on winter availability, so please check hours and locations before loading your vehicle.

In order to be sure that no one that was unable to be collected on January 12 is overlooked, the Streets Division will be collecting recycling from everyone on the west side that has a Friday trash collection day as well.

The Friday trash collection area on the west side has two parts, split by the Beltline.  South of the Beltline, the Friday collection area is west of Whitney Way, north of Raymond Rd, and east of McKenna Blvd.  And north of the Beltline, the Friday collection are is primarily west of Whitney Way, east of the Beltline, and south of the Madison city limits.  The Friday area also includes the Spring Harbor Neighborhood that is between University Avenue and Lake Mendota.

Below is also a map that is that shows the west side Friday collection area that will all receive recycling collection on Friday, January 19, 2024.  It is shaded a dark blue-gray color :
